Difference between Help Texts, Page Texts, and Validation Messages

Help Text

Help Text is available only to organizations who are on Cobalt version 4.0 or higher.

Help text is a message displayed on the form, in-between a question and its answer options.

Use Case: This text is intended to be used to provide additional context, instructions, or examples for a specific question. Help text will always display on the form, and does not need to be triggered to appear.

Page Text

Page text allows you to communicate information to customers on any portal page and can be edited directly from CRM. This information displays at the top of the page on the portal.

Use Case: Page Text is helpful to communicate instructions, warnings, and general information for a specific page. This text is intended to communicate information that should be displayed generally on a given page, and can be formatted with HTML to change how it looks.

Validation Message

Validation Messages can be set up to appear when a form question is not answered in the desired format, to provide additional clarity on what the expected input should be. When a portal user attempts to save/update a form without that field populated, this message will appear and prevent them from moving forward. You can also set Expression Rules that will specify the format in which data should be entered.

Use Case: Validation Messages are intended to display a friendly message for portal users to ensure they fill out a form correctly, and in the desired format. This prevents data being entered or submitted that is missing information, or in the wrong format.
