Help Text

Use Case:

The Help Text feature allows you to insert text below the Label of a text box and above its text box/other type of control. This text can be used to provide background, instructions, or warnings about a specific question. This is done via the form designer wizard.

This feature provides a specific message you can add to questions on a form compared to page text which would appear in a general area (top of page). For more information on the differences please take a look at the Difference between Help Texts, Page Texts, and Validation Messages article.

Adding Help Text

For General form setup instructions please refer to the Cobalt Form Creation Wizard article.

For this example we will be adding Help Text to an existing form.

  • Navigate to the Advanced Settings and open the forms section
  • Open a Form record
  • Click the ellipses on the top right and select Launch Designer
  • On the form designer, ensure you are on the page you want to update a question for
  • Click the Edit button on the form
  • Upon reaching the question editing page, expand the Advanced Options section
  • Add text to the Help Text field.
  • Click Save Question button
  • Back on the main section of the form designer you will see a preview of the help text below the question's name
  • Using an active contact, click the ellipses on the top right tool bar and select impersonate
  • On the Portal go to the section you have utilized the form on. For this example: Update your Profile
  • On the form/page that was update you will be able to see the help text between the Question's name and text box/other type of control
