How To Request/Approve Special Accommodations

Certification applicants may request special accommodations for their exams or applications. All applicants are eligible to submit their accommodation needs, which will then be reviewed by staff for approval.

This article explains how applicants can submit a request for special accommodations and how staff can review, approve, or deny these requests in the back-end system.

As of Cobalt version 4.1+, candidates are able to request special accommodations either during the initial certification application process OR during their test application registration process.

When an applicant reaches the special accommodations page in the process, they will view the following page:

Candidates have the option to select a single accommodation reason, multiple, or none at all. Accommodation reasons are configurable in the back-end system. If an accommodation reason is selected, candidates will need to provide supporting documentation (e.g. any medical reports, educational evaluation reports, or professional testing results that are required).

Once the page is filled out, applicants can continue through the rest of the application. If the user does not require any accommodations, they can continue through without selecting anything and will not be asked to upload any supporting documents.

This article will demonstrate an applicant requesting more time due to a hearing disability. At this point, the user has filled out their application and selected 'Hearing Disability' along with uploading their medical report.

Back in CRM, on the Test Application record, under the Special Accommodations tab, we can see the requested record. The record falls under the requested sub grid as staff have not yet awarded this request.

Once the request is reviewed, staff can award or deny. Given the supporting documentation, we will award the request by creating a new record under the 'Awarded Special Accommodation' tab.
