Add or Remove IP Address from Whitelist in Entra

Some customer staff may need to access resources, for example a SQL server, that are hosted in the customer's Azure tenant. In order to access the resources, the user's IP address will need to be whitelisted.

  • Note: This only applies if an existing team member with access is working from a new IP. New Entra accounts that need access will still have to go through Support for now.

Adding and removing IP addresses from the whitelist occurs in the customer's UAT or PROD Entra account, which all users may have access to but may not have the appropriate permissions to complete the task.

This article provides instructions for how to whitelist an IP address for resources hosted in a customer's Azure tenant.

Prerequisites:

  1. In order to add or remove an IP address from a whitelist in Entra, you'll need to determine the IP address that is being used.
  2. Make sure the User has the SQL Server Contributor or SQL Security Manager Role in Azure through Access control (IAM) of the individual resource
    1. OR is an owner of the Subscription which the server is a resource of.

1. Log in to UAT or PROD with "admin" account credentials.

2. Open a new tab and navigate to portal.azure.com.

May need to enter MFA code.

5. Add the desired IP address to the Firewall Rules at the bottom of this page by selecting "Add a firewall rule".

6. Remove the desired IP address by clicking the trashcan icon.
